Independence day celebrations in India

India got freedom from the Britishers on August 15, 1947 at the strike of the midnight. The independence day is celebrated with a lot love and enthusiasm. All the working institutions, schools, colleges, offices are closed on this day as it is a national holiday.


Celebration for independence day gets visible from days before it, people start preparing different decorative things like some of the shop vendors make special items which have the tricolor or something which shows the freedom of India, supermarkets feature sale or discount over the products, television and radio channels start showcasing different patriotic programmes.

On this occasion, all the official buildings are decorated with lightings. The shops are decorated in different themes showing the love and passion for the country and the independence day feeling is felt from all around.

The main celebration starts with the hoisting of the nation flag of India at different venues like Red fort, Delhi, other official places, schools and colleges, grounds etc. The hoisting of the flag is seen at almost every private and public places, it is hoisted in the dawn and is taken down and kept back by the evening.

The main programme of independence day is held at the Red fort of Delhi, where the national flag of India is unfurled by the Prime Minister of India which is saluted by the guns. This is then followed by the cultural ceremony and functions like skits, dance, air shows, etc., are conducted. Number of people come to attend the ceremony as well as to watch the parade show and other cultural programmes held.

Different shows are conducted at different places which vary from singing shows to dramas, they all make us recall the time people have faced during the struggle of freedom and time which they have given to us. People remember the freedom fighters who died in saving the future of their nation and to make India a free bird.

Nowadays, the celebration of Independence day is also seen on the television and can be heard at the radio stations. The celebration is wide and is always enthusiastic in its nature.
